How to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Session on the Sunshine Coast
Captured by Janette | Sunshine Coast Newborn Photographer
Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most beautiful and fleeting moments. Those early days pass by so quickly, which is why many families choose to book a newborn photography session on the Sunshine Coast to capture them in a natural, timeless way.
I offer relaxed newborn sessions either in my Sunshine Coast home studio or in the comfort of your own home, allowing you to choose the setting that feels most natural for your family. To help you feel calm, prepared and ready to enjoy your session, I’ve put together this simple guide.
Before Your Newborn Photography Session
A little preparation can make a big difference in helping your baby feel calm and settled during your photos.
If possible, try to keep your baby awake for around 1–2 hours before your session. Feeding your baby just before leaving home, or once I arrive (for in-home sessions), will also help them feel full and content.
For clothing, a simple zip-up onesie is perfect. It’s also helpful to ensure that everyone — including baby — has clean faces and tidy fingernails, as these details show beautifully in close-up images.
Studio or In-Home Newborn Sessions
You can choose between a home studio newborn session on the Sunshine Coast or a relaxed in-home lifestyle session.

What to Expect During Your Session
Your session will be calm, relaxed and completely baby-led.
Studio sessions are warm and cosy, while in-home sessions are natural and storytelling-focused. I gently guide everything so you can simply relax and enjoy the moment.
There is access to a microwave for warming bottles, and I keep baby wipes on hand for any quick clean-ups.
How to Prepare Your Home (For In-Home Sessions)
• Open curtains and blinds for natural light
• Tidy key areas (bedroom, nursery, living room)
• Use neutral bedding where possible
• Light decluttering helps photos feel soft and calm
• Don’t stress — I’ll guide you on the day
What to Bring
- Nappies, wipes & spare outfit
- Bottles or feeding supplies
- Dummy (even if rarely used)
- Sentimental items if desired
Preparing Parents & Siblings
Wear neutral tones and keep things simple.
I’ll always encourage natural smiles, but if your child is shy or unsure, your support really helps. Bringing a favourite toy or comfort item can make a big difference.
A Calm, Natural Approach
Every baby is unique, and there is no pressure for perfection.
My approach is relaxed and focused on capturing your baby just as they are — tiny, perfect and completely loved.
